Roles and Permissions
A user's access to features on the system is based on the role of the user. Role is a method for grouping users by their operations or duties in an organization and controlling their access to other features outside their daily operations. When a role is created, every user assigned to it is subject to the level of permission attached to the role.
For example, a role created for credit officers in an organization will have permissions that allow them to create loan accounts, analyze customers’ financial reports, and so on. A credit officer may not be permitted to approve cash requests or process teller transactions.
Creating a role
To create a new role:
- On the navigation pane, click on Users section.
- Select the Role Management tab.
- Click on the Add Role button.
- Click on the Submit button.
Deleting a role
You can also delete a role if it is no longer relevant or in use. Where a role is associated with or assigned to a user, such roles cannot be deleted. The user(s) must first be removed from that role.
To delete a role:
- Click on the Delete button on the Roles and Management tab.
Enable/Disable a role.
In place of deleting a role, a role that is not in use or relevant can be disabled. The role can be enabled whenever it is required
Managing Permissions
Permission is a collection of authorizations that are granted to users based on their role. Once a role has been created, a list of permissions can be selected and attached to the role. Permissions are grouped by roles. Therefore, they are not unique to users but to their roles. For example, a teller manager role has permissions assigned to it; all users assigned to this role have these permissions.
To add permissions to a role:
- On the navigation pane, click Users section.
- Select the Role Management tab.
- Click on the View button.
- Click on the Edit button to edit and add permissions to the permissions catalog.
Select the permissions you wish to add for a certain role. By clicking the "Select All" button, you can also select all permissions in a permission catalog or remove all by clicking the “Deselect All" button.
